Cha Am is a fast growing resort town 25 kilometres north of Hua Hin, although as the two towns stretch along this marvelous soft sand, clearwater beach it is now considered part of Hua Hin.
Cha Am has a thriving fishing fleet with a busy harbour unloading all manner of seafood and fish which is available from the many surrounding inexpensive fresh seafood restaurants. The town centre stretches for quite away along a super sandy beach, lapped by the gentle and warm seas of the Gulf of Thailand. There are abundant shops, bars, hotels and eateries, many of which have tables and chairs on the beach. There are a small number of water sports operators offering banana boat rides and jet skis. Public transport and taxis to Hua Hin proper are easily available and inexpensive. A popular form of local transport are the numerous tandem bicyles which seem to be available in all sizes and able to accomodate up to about 6 people. You will find that staying in Cha Am is a little cheaper than Hua Hin proper and there is probably more here for families.
